Warning signs
A tornado warning means take shelter immediately. Look for a dark, often greenish sky, large hail, or a loud roar.
Shelter guidance
Go to the lowest interior room. Cover your head. If in a vehicle, seek sturdy shelter—do not try to outrun a tornado.
Mobile home and vehicle risk
Mobile homes and vehicles are not safe during tornado warnings. Move to a sturdy site-built structure.
After a tornado
Watch for broken glass, downed lines, and gas leaks. Photograph damage for insurance when safe.
