Map data and software notices

The street basemap is a Produced Work rendered from OpenStreetMap data. The map and the tiles behind it are made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0, and OpenStreetMap's own contributors hold the underlying data.

This platform does not edit OpenStreetMap geometry, tags or attributes. It takes a published Protomaps planet build and extracts a region from it, then re-tiles that region. The complete set of alterations is therefore the extract region and the build parameters.

That file is published here, free of charge and without registration, and it records the exact extract region, its checksum, and the planet build it was cut from. Anyone who would rather have the derivative database itself may ask for it at [email protected] and it will be provided free of charge.

When the self-hosted basemap is unavailable the map falls back to OpenFreeMap, whose terms ask for the following credit, given here and on the map itself:

Radar and precipitation-type imagery is NWS RIDGE II, which publishes NOAA/NCEP MRMS output. Watches, warnings, forecasts and observations are the National Weather Service. Convective outlooks and fire weather are the Storm Prediction Center. River and flood gauges are the National Water Prediction Service. Tropical products are the National Hurricane Center. Air quality is AirNow, a partnership of the EPA, NOAA, NASA, CDC, tribal, state and local agencies.

These are works of the United States Government and are in the public domain under 17 U.S.C. § 105. They are credited on the surfaces that draw them because a reader is entitled to know the source of an operational claim, not because the licence compels it. None of these agencies endorses this platform.

Imagery and derived layers are rendered by this platform and are not the original, unaltered federal product.

ZIP code and place lookups resolve against the US Census Bureau Gazetteer Files, which are shipped with this platform rather than queried, so a search for a place does not travel to a third party. They are works of the United States Government in the public domain. The Census Bureau does not endorse this platform.
